Dogwood, Red Gnome
Cornus alba sibirica 'Red Gnome'
Fertilizing Code:04/20 to 04/21
Pruning Code:04/10 to 04/11

A low growing compact red twigged dogwood with a dense branching structure. Medium green leaves all summer long, drop in the fall to reveal bright red stems during the winter months.

Care Instruction:
Soil and Moisture: Dogwoods are happy in most any soil type and appreciate lots of moisture, especially during the spring and when plants are young. Plants can withstand somewhat boggy sites from time to time.
Fertilizing: One application of 10-10-10 in the spring is suffiecient for good growth and will enhance the foliage and stem color.
Pruning: Proper pruning is important. Selectively prune out 1/3 of the oldest stems each spring by cutting them back to ground level. Avoid letting the shrubs grow and then trimming the branch tops in a "haircut" style.
Special Notes: If growing for the excellent winter stem color, the pruning tips are crucial. The older stems get, the less coloration they offer.
